Korean Free Trade Agreement Translation Errors

Translation Errors

It was realized that translation errors occurred in a Free Trade Agreement between Korea and the European Union. This was the second set of errors found in the document. It was first reviewed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, where errors were found and corrected. After those corrections were made, it was reviewed by lawyer Song Ki-ho, where more errors were found.

Korean Trade Minister Kin Jong-hoon has ordered new proof-reading of the Korus FTA to assure that these errors will not be made in the trade agreement with the United States. The same speed will be kept, but the agreement will be released early, with a one month grace period to correct any errors before declaring the translation official.

“I’m naturally not good with making excuses. What is wrong is wrong and errors must be corrected, and we are in that process,” said Kim.
