EPIC Translations Adheres to ISO 17100:2015 Translation Quality Standard

EPIC Translations adheres to ISO 17100:2015 Translation Quality Standard.

In 2015, the International Organization for Standards published ISO 17100:2015 translation quality standard. This standard established requirements for every company, large or small, that provides translation services. This replaced the previous standard, UNE-EN 15038:2006, established in 2006. ISO standards can be complex, especially for those unfamiliar with their purpose, so today we’ll be breaking this standard down into its three core principles and explaining how these principles are implemented.

ISO 17100:2015 Translation Quality Standard

For a company to meet just the minimum requirements established by this standard, they must adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. Qualifications: Translation teams must meet multiple competency standards, including standards for education and experience. Recruitment standards should be rigorous to ensure all team members are proficient translators. Furthermore, organizations must invest in their teams through continuing education.
  1. Production guidelines: Before the project even begins, there are guidelines for bidding, communication, and business scope that must be upheld. The first, and perhaps most important guideline, is transparency. To maintain their compliance with ISO 17100:2015 translation quality standard, companies agree to turn down projects if they exceeds their capabilities. After the project begins, multiple translators must review the content to ensure its accuracy. This is a part of a six-step process, including the initial translation, a first check, a second revision, another review, additional proofreading, and a final verification before release.
  1. Client satisfaction: The most significant difference, compared to the prior standard, is the ongoing communication with the client after the translation is completed. ISO 17100:2015 translation quality standard expects organizations to share feedback with all team members, not just those directly involved in the translation. If clients discover errors after publication, organizations commit to fixing them. Finally, teams must securely archive all documentation related to the project.

EPIC Translations is ISO 17100:2015 Compliant

For almost a decade, companies all across the globe have trusted us for their translation needs, and that is in part because we have consistently proven that we take your business seriously. This is why we’ve chosen to voluntarily adhere to the ISO 17100:2015 translation quality standard. We do this in these three important ways.

  1. Project management: We offer a proprietary project management portal. This allows you to observe our progress in real-time as we work on your project.
  1. Actual linguists: It is our philosophy that computer generated translations are insufficient and can never replace the accuracy of a real person. We have a team of more than 20,000 expert translators ready to get started on translating your documents or localizing your website.
  1. Rigorous team standards: For companies that require multilingual professionals on-site, we offer assistance with building your own translation teams. During the recruitment phase, we’ll review applications for their ability to think on their feet, their analytical skills, their ability to change and adapt, as well as their attention to detail. We follow the same strict standards for your team that we follow when building our own teams.

While relatively new, ISO 17100:2015 translation quality standard has raised the bar for client expectations with regards to professional translation services.  We’re proud to be compliant with this standard, and look forward to working with you on your next translation project.
